Women as Victims...

Reading social media one could easily believe that the majority of men are abusers, pedophiles and misogynists and women are victims who need government, committees and women-only groups to save them. I call this crap! Many women of my generation and for decades before fought for equality. We did not want special treatment because we had vaginas; we wanted merit to be recognised and to be seen as equal members of society with vaginas sure, but also brains, strength and attributes necessary to a better world. In my experience (and the evidence supports me) the vast majority of men are as good as the vast majority of women and some women are as a bad as the minority of men. Women have long had the greatest influence on the development of boys. If we want men/boys to respect us WE need to refuse to be disrespected. WE need to work with men - as many do - to show how respectful relationships work. Running off to harassment committees and expecting government to 'look after'us simply builds a view of women as weak and helpless. Having women-only leadership groups suggests that women cannot stand equal to men. It also prevents men and women learning from each other. No doubt there is long way to go to get some balance in top positions - BUT - we will achieve this by demonstrating we are bloody good.

All you gals who achieved on merit and without screaming harassment, or being offended constantly it is time to speak up. Rather than worrying about little golden books, lets teach humour, resilience and respect to both boys and girls. REsilience comes from facing troubles and learning to deal with them; not from others sorting our problems for us. Whats that old saying about 'give a man a fish...'.
